It's April 5, 1993, and veteran knuckleballer Charlie Hough is about to uncork the first pitch in the history of the Florida Marlins. As a helicopter and an airplane circle overhead and a sellout crowd of 42,334 at Miami's Joe Robbie Stadium looks on in anticipation of the historic moment, Hough delivers to leadoff hitter Jose Offerman of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's a called strike by home plate umpire Frank Pulli. The crowd roars. It doesn't get any better than this! For the record, Benito Santiago is the Marlins' catcher, Orestes Destrade is the first baseman, Bret Barberie is at second, Walt Weiss is the shortstop, Dave Magadan is at third, Jeff Conine is in left, Scott Pose is the center fielder and Junior Felix is in right. Joe West is the first base umpire, Charlie Williams is at second and Gary Darling is at third. And, oh yes, the Marlins won the game, 6-3.
